The Lindenwood field hockey team came away with a big Senior Day win Sunday over the Bellarmine Knights 6-2.
Freshman
Carly Brengosz opened the scoring for the Lady Lions with a blast at the just before the 17 minute mark that found the net to give the team the early lead.
Less than two minutes later, Senior
Kristi O'Connor made her Senior Day one to remember with her 12th goal this season to make the score 2-0 Lindenwood.
Bellarmine would answer with a goal on a rebound following a series of shots two of which
Victoria Gil was able to turn away.
In the second half, Lindenwood got a goal from
Ashton Lichvar less than two minutes into the half. Senior
Meredith Openlander netted her second goal of the season with a nice assist from O'Connor.
Karlie Quinn made the score 5-2 Lady Lions with her second goal of the season followed by O'Connor's 13th goal of the year three minutes late. On this Senior Day, the seniors made an impact netting three of the six goals.
Gil, stopped 18 of 20 shots she faced from the Knights.
With the win Lindenwood improved to 4-8 this season. The team's next and final home game comes Friday Oct. 25 against Newberry College.
