The Lindenwood field hockey team continued its winning streak Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Mercy.
The victory was the third straight for the Lady Lions after back-to-back wins at home in their previous two matches.
Mercy opened the scoring in the match as the Mavericks dribbled in past the defense scoring from close in on goaltender Victoria Gil.
The Lady Lions came back with an answer. Seniors Kristi O'Connor and Meredith Openlander combined to tie up the game at 1-1 before halftime.
O'Connor stole the ball from the Mavericks' defender then made a perfect pass through the last line of defense to Openlander for the easy finish. This was Openlander's third goal of the season.
Openlander and O'Connor would lead the way to victory in the second half. Just four minutes in O'Connor netted her 17th goal of the year.
Freshman Karlie Quinn would set up Openlander midway through the half for her second goal of the game making it 3-1.
The home Mavericks wouldn't go quietly with a late second half goal to cut the Lindenwood lead to 3-2.
The Lady Lions finished the game with stingy defense to hold of Mercy and earn the win. With the win, Lindenwood improves to 6-8 on the year. Next up is a Sunday showdown against Dowling tomorrow at noon.
