Swimming and Diving Earns Victory at Delta State Invitational

The Lindenwood men's swimming and diving team pulled out a victory at the Delta State Christmas Invitational. The Lindenwood Women finished as runners-up second place behind  host Delta State.

The men scored a total of 959 points which was good enough to win over second-place and host Delta State by over 200 points.

The Lady Lions finished with 833.5 points just 65 behind the champions, Delta State University.

The men had some key highlights in the competition on their way to the big victory in the pool.

In the 400 yard medley relay, the team of Victor Munoz, Ramunas Paknys, Ivars Akmentins, and Mateusz Pacholczyk won the event with their time of 3:17.68.

In the men's 1000 free, Sylwester Borowicz-Skoneczny, Gustavo Silva Santa, and Igor Mijatovic finished first, second, and third with times of 9:07.96, 9:11.72, and 9:24.38 respectively.  All three times were under the former school record and the NCAA B Standard. 

Borowicz-Skoneczny's time was Lindenwood's first swimming NCAA A Standard this first inaugural Division II season. The 800 freestyle relay saw the Lions finishing in first with a new pool record, school record and a new NCAA B standard of 6:37.68. 

Paknys posted an NCAA B standard of 1:40.33 in the first leg. The team was made up of Paknys, Akmentins, Cody Friedhoff, and Gustavo Silva Santa.

Although placing second, the women have had their share of impressive performances in the pool as well. 

Alecia McGillivray has been a standout thus far at the event. She earned the win in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:07.78 and also was posted an NCAA B Standard record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.09.

McGillivray was also part of the record-breaking 800 free relay team.  The Lady Lions finished seconnd with a new school record and NCAA B standard of 7:41.35.  The remaining members of the team was made up of Lena Kirchner, Maike Tweesman, and Audra Thornton.

The team has a long break for the holiday season and will not return to the pool until Jan. 10-11 at Washington University in St. Louis.
