Lions Win First MIAA Game of the Season

Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball team used five double digit scorers in the team's 88-77 win over the Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Thursday night in St. Charles. The win was the Lions third in a row and first in MIAA play.

Central Oklahoma started the game jumping out to a 7-2 lead just two minutes in. Lindenwood answered the Bronchos run with a large run of its own. The Lions outscored the visitors 14-4 to take a five-point lead. After the Lindenwood took the lead, it would never give up the advantage the rest of the night.

The only thing Central Oklahoma could do was tie the score, which it did with 9:12 to play in the first half. As soon as the Bronchos tied the score up at 18, the Lions would go on and score the next 14-of-19 points to take a nine-point lead.

Central Oklahoma was able to get its deficit down to as low as two but the Lions advantage would end up at four at the final buzzer of the half.

The second half started with the Bronchos getting within one just 90 seconds in. That would be as close as the Bronchos would get for the rest of the game. The Lions pushed their advantage up to 10 with just over eight minutes to play.

At the 3:06 mark, Lindenwood would make its final field goal of the game. But fortunately for the Lions, the team would continue to extend their lead from the charity stripe. Lindenwood closed the game making 12-of-13 free throws.

The Lions were led by Tyler Ressel who scored a game-high 19 points which included a four-of-five night from behind the three-point line. Brandon Marquardt chipped in with 14 points while Darris Smith, Garrett Reeg, and Sam Mader all scored 12 points each. Michael Boos came off the bench and scored 10 points.

Lindenwood shot 30 free throws compared to just two by Central Oklahoma. The Lions made 21 of their free throws and also shot 52 percent from the field. The Bronchos did not shoot many free throws but did shoot 37 three-pointers. Central Oklahoma shot 32 percent from deep while Lindenwood was nine-of-20 from behind the three-point line. The Lions outrebounded the Bronchos 41-35 and both teams turned the ball over 14 times.

With the win Lindenwood improved its overall record to 5-4 and 1-0 in MIAA play. The Lions will be right back in action on Saturday afternoon with another conference game against Northeastern State at Hyland Arena.
