Men's Volleyball Snaps Three-Game Skid With Victory Over Quincy

Box Score The Lindenwood men's volleyball team earned its second victory of the season on Wednesday night at is defeated the Quincy Hawks, 3-1. The Lions won by scores of 25-11, 25-20, 20-25, and 25-11.
 
The Lions jumped out in the first set with a .632 hitting percentage and a 90 percent side-out percentage as they held Quincy to 11 points. After Quincy's Steven Battaglia recorded a kill to bring the score to 10-7 Lindenwood, the Lions produced a 10-1 behind the serve of Chris Cox and Tim Huizinga to go up 20-8. The Lions closed out the first set with a kill by Huizinga.
 
Quincy came battling back in the second set as it went up 8-5 early, but a kill and a service ace from Michael Adams along with a Quincy hitting error halted the Hawks run. The two teams exchanged leads until 13-all when Lindenwood capitalized on two Quincy errors to go up 15-13. The Lions closed out the second set on a 10-7 run.
 
The third set was the set of ties as the two teams produced 11 ties before Quincy rattled off a four-point run to go up 19-15 late in the set. Lindenwood cut the lead to two, twice, but three-straight points at the end by Quincy forced a fourth set.
 
The Quincy momentum at the end of the third set quickly shifted Lindenwood's way as the Lions took 15 out of the first 18 points in the set. The Hawks would come within nine, but that would be as close as they would get. Lindenwood finished the fourth set by taking advantage on two Hawk hitting errors.
 
The Lions hit .319 for the evening while holding Quincy to just a .070 clip. Huizinga led the offensive attack with 12 kills while Casey Calder added 10 in his first start of the season. Calder also led the team with 11 digs, recording the first kill-dig double-double of the season for the Lions. Thomas Cruz led the team with seven block assists. Cox recorded 36 out of the teams 41 assists for the match.
 
Lindenwood improves to 2-6 on the season and 2-5 in the MIVA. The Lions travel to Wisconsin this upcoming weekend. Lindenwood will open up the road trip with a match against Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
