Box Score
The Lindenwood baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game home stand by a score of 8-7 on Monday to Missouri Southern.

Lindenwood jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Colton Moore put the ball in play that scored Wade Rothermich after an error by the shortstop.

Missouri Southern answered by scoring two runs in the top of the second.  Runners crossed the plate on a double and a single, both coming with two outs.  Lindenwood was able to reply with some two-out magic of its own as Rothermich hit a two-run triple to retain the lead 3-2 after two innings of play.

In the top of the fourth inning, Missouri Southern was able to put six consecutive hitters on base by drawing two walks, hitting three singles, and a gap shot that was good for a double.  Missouri Southern ended the fourth with five runs which gave the visitors a 7-3 lead.

Lindenwood was able to get a rally going in the sixth inning when Moore, Ryan Light and Mike Wilson each hit a double to start the inning.  Both Moore and Light would score in the inning while Wilson was left at third base.  The Lions were able to draw within two runs after six innings.

Eddie Sutton, who came in to play shortstop in the top of the inning, was able to single in the bottom of the inning and was later driven in by Light to make it a 7-6 game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Lindenwood had runners on first and second with one out when Rothermich struck out.  On the strike out both runners, Kyle Leslie and Ben Coudret, stole second and third respectively. Missouri Southern's catcher threw the ball into left field trying to throw Leslie out at third which allowed the Lions to tie the score.

In the top of the ninth, Missouri Southern took advantage of a Lindenwood error by scoring on a double to take the lead 8-7.  Missouri Southern was able to hold on and take one win from the three-game series.

Three Lions finished the day with two hits each as Rothermich and Light had two RBIs apiece.

Lindenwood falls to 2-5 on the season with a MIAA record of 2-1.  The Lions will be on the road as they travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to take on MIAA opponent Central Missouri on Wednesday for a doubleheader slated for a 1 p.m. start.
