Box Score For its fifth-straight victory, the Lindenwood men's volleyball team picked up the 3-0 sweep over Belmont Abbey on Thursday evening. The Lions won by scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-17. This was the first of three-straight road matches for the Lions.
Both teams started the match off pretty even keel before Lindenwood used a three-point run to go up 6-3. The Lions maintained control of the set until a four-point Abbey run brought the Crusaders within one at 14-13. A kill by
Michael Adams ended the Belmont Abbey run. Behind the serve of
Tim Schmidt, the Lions finished the first set on a four-point run.
The second set was a true back-and-forth battle between the Lions and the Crusaders as neither team held more than a three-point edge. At 16-16, Adams sparked a 5-1 run with a kill to put the Lions up three. Belmont Abbey answered back with a 4-1 run of its own to tie up the set at 21-all. Back-to-back kills by
Tim Huizinga ended the set for the Lions.
Tied at 9-9 in the third, five kills by the Lions as well as a service error by the Crusaders put Lindenwood up 16-10. The Lions capitalized on three errors by Belmont Abbey and a pair of kills by freshman
Ryan Moore and Schmidt to close out the set.
Adams led the Lions with nine kills on 20 attempts, hitting at a .300 clip for the evening. Schmidt led all players on the floor with 30 assists and Huizinga and
David Poole each recorded double-digit digs for the Lions with 11 apiece. For the game, Lindenwood hit .232 as a team while holding the Crusaders to a .086 mark.
Lindenwood has improved to 6-6 overall this season and 4-1 against non-conference opponents. The Lions will continue their road trip by taking on Limestone tomorrow evening. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. central time.
