Box Score The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team led for the majority of the game on Friday evening in Lakeland, Fla, but a late run by Florida Southern caused the Lions to fall by a 14-12 margin.
After an even first quarter in which both teams scored three goals, Lindenwood took the advantage by outscoring Florida Southern 3-0 in the second quarter.
Joe Roy had three of Lindenwood's four goals during a 4-0 run that gave it a 6-3 halftime lead.
Lindenwood still had a two-goal lead after the third quarter and extended it to 9-6 with a goal early in the fourth quarter. The Mocassins had an offensive explosion though for the rest of the game. Florida Southern scored eight times in a ten-minute span to take a 14-10 lead. The Lions scored three times late to get within two but that was as close as they can get.
Florida Southern outshot Lindenwood 48-40 in the game, and the Lions had five more turnovers. Lindenwood won the groundball battle by a 42-34 margin.
Roy finished with three goals and
Brandon Stuebing had two goals and one assists.
Graeme Hossack had two goals and
Greg Cameron assisted on two goals.
Matt Schenk,
Jon George, and
Mike Meagher all had one goal and one assist.
Carter McCracken and
John Pettis each had one goal, and
Jack Carroll had one assist.
Defensively,
Dan Ashlock made 13 saves in the game. Hossack had a team-high 11 groundballs, followed by
Michael Helfant with six.
Lindenwood returns to the field tomorrow afternoon at Florida Tech.
