Volleyball Hosts Lindenwood Classic This Upcoming Weekend

On Tap For The Lindenwood Lions

• Lindenwood is set to host the annual Lindenwood Classic on March 1 and 2. Including the Lions, five teams will compete in the tournament. Lindenwood will have matches against Carthage, King, and Limestone.

• On Friday, the Lions will play against Carthage at 4 p.m. and King at 7 p.m. Lindenwood is set to play Limestone in the 2 p.m. match on Saturday. All of Lindenwood's matches will be on court two.

About the Red Men
• This is the second meeting this season between Lindenwood and Carthage.

• Lindenwood won in a five-set thriller up in Kenosha earlier this season. Carthage had a 2-1 advantage over the Lions before Lindenwood came back, winning the fourth set 25-23 and the fifth set 15-12.

• Four members of the Carthage squad recorded double-digit kills against Lindenwood, led by Jim Schultz with 15. Connor Wexter led all players on the floor with 57 assists.

• Under the direction of L.J. Marx, the Red Men have an overall record of 9-5. They are coming off of two losses against Lindenwood and fellow MIVA member Quincy.

• Carthage averages 12.7 kills per set as a team and 1.0 service aces per set.

• Pat Barry leads offensive attack with 184 total kills at 4.72 kills per set.

About the Tornado
• Under the direction of third-year head coach Ryan Booher, the Tornado are 8-10 overall and 4-8 in the Conference Carolinas.

• Michael Koebel leads the team with 137 total kills.

• Stephen Brown has recorded a team-high 11 service aces this season.

• Ashton Kippenstiel has played in 47 sets for the Tornado as a setter. He leads the team with 294 assists.

• The Tornado most recently fell to conference opponent Pfeiffer 3-1 on the road. King's last victoy game against Barton on February 23.

About the Saints
• This is the second meeting between these two squads this season. Lindenwood picked up the 3-0 victory on the Saints home court.

• After starting the season 8-3, the Saints have dropped the last three matches.

• Against Lindenwood, Limestone was held to a .194 hitting percentage. Eric Zaun led the team with eight kills on 21 attempts.

• Zaun leads the team with 119 kills, just five more than teammate Kevin Hart.

• Andrew Pile has started and played in 10 matches for the Saints as the primary setter. In those matches, he is averaging 9.12 assists per set.

Lindenwood Notes
• Lindenwood is riding a seven-match winning streak dating back to its victory over conference opponent Quincy on February 13.

• As of February 24, Tim Huizinga leads the nation in service aces per set. The sophomore has recorded 23 aces at 0.66 aces per set.

Tim Schmidt has also found himself on two, NCAA top-30 lists. The junior setter is 21st on the list for assists per set with 9.63 and 24th in aces per set with 0.33.

Scott Siwicki is sixth in the conference with a .387 hitting percentage.

David Poole is third in the MIVA conference in digs per set with 2.81.

• Lindenwood has only dropped three sets since the start of its winning streak.

Colin Hackworth is averaging a team-high 3.17 kills per set

• Lindenwood has bumped up to fifth in the conference in opponent hitting percentage. The Lions allow a .225 clip by their opponents.

Last Time Out
• Lindenwood picked up three straight sweeps as it traveled to the Carolinas for matches against first-year program Belmont Abbey, Limestone, and Pfeiffer.

• During the Carolina trip, the Lions hit at a clip of .266 as a team, including a season-high .413 against Limestone.

• Lindenwood recorded eight more service aces than its opponents this past weekend.

Colin Hackworth recorded a season-high hitting percentage of .476 against Limestone.

• Lindenwood improved to 6-1 against non-conference opponents.

Tim Huizinga recorded a career-high 11 digs against Belmont Abbey.

MIVA Conference
• Lindenwood is the eighth and newest member to the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association conference.

• The Lions were picked seventh in the MIVA preseason poll.

• Lindenwood is currently seventh in the conference, one conference victory behind Ball State for sixth. Lewis and Ohio State still remain undefeated in conference.

• The Lions finished 3-6 against MIVA opponents last season, including 3-1 over the last four matches.

Next Up For The Lions
• Lindenwood will travel across town for a pair of matches at Fontbonne on March 5. The Lions will have one match against the Griffins and its second match of the season against Belmont Abbey.

• The Lions return home on March 12 as they will host Hannibal-LaGrange. First serve in Hyland Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.

• Lindenwood will resume conference play on March 22 as it will host the Lewis Flyers.
