Box Score The Lindenwood men's volleyball team fell in three sets on Friday evening to the Lewis Flyers. The Lions fell by scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-10.
Lindenwood held an early edge in set one before Lewis used a three-point swing at 4-2 to gain control of the set. The Flyers' lead would grow to as many as five before Lindenwood retaliated by producing a 5-1 run of its own. The Lions capitalized on three Flyer hitting errors as well as a pair of kills from
Colin Hackworth and
Tim Huizinga to bring the score down one at 18-17. That Lindenwood streak would end as Lewis closed out the first set on an 8-3 run.
Both teams stayed even in the beginning of the second set, exchanging leads and ties until the score was at 10-all. At that point, Lewis took advantage of three errors by the Lions to follow up with three kills of its own to start a 6-1 run. Lindenwood never recovered, only pulling within five on three occasions.
The third set was all Lewis as the Flyers ended the set winning the final 10 points. Lindenwood got off to a slow start in the set, going down 10-4 early but could not contain Lewis as it hit .412 in the final set.
Hackworth and Huizinga led the Lions attack with nine kills apiece. Hackworth hit at a .368 clip for the night.
Tim Schmidt recorded 29 assists while
Michael Adams led the team with six digs.
Lindenwood was held to a .116 hitting percentage on the night while Lewis hit .354 as a team. The Lions committed 20 errors compared to only 12 by the Flyers.
The Lions fall to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the MIVA. Lindenwood heads to Loyola-Chicago for a conference match-up on Saturday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
