Box Score 2 The Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team went 1-1 on the first day of the Eckerd Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. The Lady Lions won the first game of the day 2-1 over Florida Southern but fell in the second game of the day 7-1 to Lynn University.
In the first game of the day, Lindenwood scored two runs in the bottom of the first which held up for the rest of the contest. Florida Southern was able to cut into the lead in the sixth inning with a single tally but the Lady Lions hurlers stayed strong.
The combination of
Megan Newman and
Kendall Ryndak surrendered just two hits and one unearned run in the win.
Courtney Kitson and
Alexandra Newcomb each had two hits while Newcomb drove in the Lindenwood runs.
The second game of the day also started with the Lady Lions scoring the first run of the contest in the top of the first. It wasn't until
the third inning when Lynn broke through. The home team scored three runs in the third, and two in both the fourth and the fifth.
Sally Brookshier led the Lindenwood offense with three hits in three at bats.
Kimberly Lake drive in the Lady Lions lone run and Newcomb had another two hit game.
Kristen Felker started for Lindenwood and lasted just 2 1/3 innings giving up three earned runs.
With the split the Lady Lions record goes to 1-3 on the season. Lindenwood will be right back in action Saturday with a game against Tampa.
