Box Score The Lindenwood men's volleyball team fell in straight sets for the second night in a row as they had a match against Loyola-Chicago. The Lions fell by scores of 25-22, 25-16, and 25-21.
Loyola got out to a 7-3 early lead and never let up in the first set. A kill by
Colin Hackworth sparked a three-point Lindenwood run in the middle of the set, but that would only bring the Lions within three. After a service error by Loyola's Trevor Novotny, the Lions went on a 4-1 run to come within two at 22-20. The two teams exchanged every other point through the end of the set as Loyola finished on top.
Set two proved to be the set of runs, as Loyola had two stretches where the Ramblers scored at least four straight while the Lions had a stretch of scoring three straight points. When Lindenwood went on the three-point run early in the set, the Lions came within one of the Ramblers at 6-5. The Lions capitalized on three Loyola attack errors in that run. After going down 18-10, the Lions would not recover and only came within seven of the Ramblers on a couple occasions.
Lindenwood came back battling in the third set and after a four-point swing that included a pair of kills by
Kyle Overby, the Lions had the lead at 18-17. Loyola answered back with a four-point swing of its own that put the Ramblers up 22-19. Loyola finished the third set winning three out of the last four points.
Overby led the Lions with 10 kills at a clip of .471. The Lions were held to a .119 hitting percentage for the evening while Loyola hit .322 for the evening. Lindenwood outblocked Loyola 23-10 as
Scott Siwicki recorded a team-high eight block assists.
Cory Buehler led the Lions with 10 digs.
Lindenwood falls to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in the MIVA. The Lions will return to the Hyland Arena floor as they take on Quincy on February 13. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
