Box Score The Lindenwood softball team gave No. 8 Tampa all it could handle on Saturday afternoon but fell 6-5 in Clearwater, Fla.
Tampa jumped out to an early lead scoring one run in the first, two in the second, and three in the third to take a 6-0 lead after three.
Lindenwood did not give up even though the Lady Lions were trailing by five. Lindenwood got on the scoreboard in the fourth with a single tally and got within two after it scored three runs in the fifth.
Neither team was able to score a run in the sixth and the game headed to the seventh inning with Tampa leading by two.
The Lady Lions started the inning off with
Courtney Kitson singling and then was advanced to second on a groundout by
Macy Bross.
Hannah Braun then singled to right center to put runners on first and third. Alexander Newcomb followed the single up with a pop out and Lindenwood was down to its final out.
With
Kendall Ryndak at the plate the Lady Lions pulled off a double steal and cut the lead to one. Now the winning run was on second but Ryndak struck out stranding the tying run at second.
Newcomb led the way on offense going two-for-four with a pair of RBIs.
Megan Newman started but lasted only 2 1/3 giving up five earned runs. Ryndak came in relief and settled everything down throwing the final 3 2/3 giving up just two hits.
The loss drops the Lady Lions to 1-5 on the season. Lindenwood will be right back in action Sunday afternoon with games against Eckerd and Florida Institute of Technology.
