Box Score 2 The Lindenwood men's volleyball team increased its winning streak to nine on Friday evening, picking up the sweep over Carthage and King at the Lindenwood Classic.
In the first set of the Classic, Lindenwood turned in a .565 hitting percentage as a team while holding the Red Men to a clip of .103. The Lions committed just one error with 14 kills in the first set.
Despite falling back in the second set with just 11 kills and five errors, the Lion defense held Carthage to just .036 as a team. Four kills by
Colin Hackworth in the second set as well as two aces by
Tim Huizinga helped the Lions push through the set.
The Lions ended the first match with 39 kills behind the lead of Hackworth with 11 and
Michael Adams and
Scott Siwicki with 10 apiece.
Logan Jarus led the Lindenwood defense, posting one solo block and six block assists.
David Poole led the team with eight digs. The Lions had the advantage in every category except service aces over the Red Men.
Lindenwood picked up where it left off against King, as the Lions opened up the match hitting at a clip of .500. Lindenwood recorded seven kills on 12 attempts with just one error while capitalizing on 10 hitting errors by the Tornadoes.
Behind the serve of
Casey Calder, the Lions recorded nine-straight points in the second set, putting them up to an early 15-3 lead. Lindenwood had a 23-6 advantage over King before committing a couple of hitting errors that allowed for the Tornadoes to reach nine points. Calder ended the set on a kill from setter
Tim Schmidt.
The Lions finished the match against King hitting .364 as a team while only committing nine errors on the evening. Led by
Tim Schmidt with three, Lindenwood tallied eight service aces in the match. Calder led the team in kills with nine, only playing in the final two sets.
Lindenwood improves to 10-6 on the season. The Lions will sit out the first game of the day at the Lindenwood Classic before facing Limestone in the afternoon game for the second time this season. First serve at the Hyland Arena is scheduled for 2 p.m.
