Men’s Rugby Defeats Wisconsin

Men’s rugby stepped up a notch in collegiate rugby play to face Division 1A Wisconsin and came away with a solid 54-10 victory over the current first place team in the Big 10 rugby conference Saturday afternoon.

The Lions out-maneuvered the Badgers and the wind on the pitch at the Lindenwood Track to cross the try line a total of eight times in the game, four each half.  Mathius Harris, Morgan Findlay and Nicholas Markowski accounted for two tries each and James Poli and Mickey Bateman each added one.  Senior Trevor Locke and freshmen Nathan Rankin and Cameron Reed set the tone on the front line while Maanihera Kapa brought the physicality needed in the backfield.  Sophomore fullback Morgan Findlay proved to be a dangerous attacker and a thorn for the Wisconsin defense all day.

The Lions put their 4-0 record on the line when they return to conference play on the road in the Heart of America Rugby Football Union against Arkansas March 16.  The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Fayetteville, Ark.  A Lindenwood victory over the Razorbacks will clinch a spot in the sweet 16 at the USA Rugby Division 1AA playoffs in late April.
