Baseball Splits Tuesday’s Doubleheader With Southwest Baptist

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lindenwood split Tuesday's doubleheader with Southwest Baptist with a 13-6 win in game one and a 12-2 loss in the second game.

In game one, the Lindenwood offense took an early lead and did not look back.  Starting with the first inning the Lions had bases loaded with one out and could only bring in one run on an error by the first baseman which brought in Nathan Prindle. Kyle Leslie hit a fly ball to right field in attempt to bring in Mike Wilson but he left third base early which ended the inning.

In the second inning Ryan Light reached base on a hit by pitch.  With two outs Wade Rothermich walked and Prindle hit a two-RBI double to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.

The Lions led 3-2 going into the top of the fourth inning which would be a big inning.

With two outs and a runner on second, Prindle singled up the middle to drive in Kyle Kruger who pinch ran for Nick KolleyMike Failoni hit the ball right back at the pitcher for a single and moved Prindle to third base after he stole second earlier in the at bat.  Wilson walked to load the bases and a wild pitch advanced all three runners up one base.

Colton Moore walked to load the bases again and force a pitching change.  Leslie broke the game open with a two-RBI double down the right field line to give the Lions a 7-3 lead.  Again the Lions crossed the plate on a wild pitch scoring Moore from third.  Light hit a two-RBI home run to give the Lions a seven-run fourth inning to make it a 10-3 game.

In the top of the fifth already leading big in the game Failoni hit a two-run home run that brought in Rothermich who singled earlier in the inning.

Lindenwood added one more run in the top of the seventh when Failoni doubled to drive in Kruger to make it a 13-2 ball game.  The Lions gave up four run in the bottom of the seventh but the deficit was too much for Southwest Baptist.

Starting pitcher Zac Pearman threw six solid innings en route to his second victory of the year.  Pearman struck out three batters and allowed just four hits in the Lions 13-6 win.

Game two turned out to be a flipped version of game one.  The Lions lost by a score of 12-2 in eight innings.

Lindenwood manufactured their runs on a Failoni solo home run in the sixth inning and on an RBI single by Eddie Sutton that drove in Light after he hit a double earlier in the inning.

Prindle and Failoni had nearly identical lines in game one each going three-for-four with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a double.  Failoni finished the day going five-for-seven with two home runs, four RBIs, one double and three runs scored.  Wilson's hitting streak came to an end at 11 games.

With the weekday split the Lions move to 6-10 on the year and 6-6 in the MIAA.  Lindenwood returns home with a three-game series against Fort Hays State starting on Saturday for a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
