Box Score 2 The Lindenwood Lions baseball team split its doubleheader on Friday versus Fort Hays at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo. The Lions fell in game one by a score of 2-0 and won game two 14-4 in seven innings.
Lindenwood ace
Dylan Terrell started game one but was unable to earn the victory allowing eight hits and only striking out two batters although but gave up two runs.
The Lion bats stayed quiet in game one as they had just seven hits and no runs and stranded eight runners.
Mike Failoni continues to stay hot as he had two hits in game one and
Nathan Prindle had two hits of his own. Terrell threw his fourth complete game but takes his second consecutive loss in a 2-0 game against Fort Hays.
The Lions scored four runs in three separate innings in game two. Lindenwood swung the sticks for 15 hits and forced four errors on the Fort Hays defense.
After allowing two runs in the top of the first inning the Lions responded with four in the bottom of the first.
Wade Rothermich and
Ben Coudret advanced on a hit by pitch and a walk. Failoni followed the two with an RBI single driving in Rothermich.
Mike Wilson laid down a SAC bunt to move Failoni and Coudret over.
With two outs
Ryan Light was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Kyle Leslie came through with a two-RBI single that drove in Failoni and Coudret.
Nick Kolley had the third single of the inning that brought Light in to score and make it a 4-2 game after one inning.
Lindenwood gave up two runs in the third that tied the game at 4-4.
The Lions took control of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with non-stop scoring.
Kolley started the inning with a single and advanced to second on a SAC bunt by
Eddie Sutton. Rothermich doubled to put runners at second and third with one out.
Coudret hit an RBI single to give the Lions a one-run lead. After a Failoni walk
Mike Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to right field bringing in Rothermich.
Fort Hays changed pitchers and Failoni took second on a delayed steal to put two runners in scoring position.
Nathan Prindle brought in two runners on his two-out single to expand the lead to 8-4.
The Lions took another run in the fifth inning when Sutton reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to third on a hit-and-run by Rothermich, and was brought in on a Coudret sacrifice bunt.
In the sixth inning the Lions broke the game wide open. Prindle started the inning off reaching on an error. He stole second base that forced a throwing error that moved him to third. Light singled to bring in Prindle. Light stole second and moved to third on a Leslie groundout.
Kolley drove in Light on an RBI single. Sutton walked to put runners at first and second. Rothermich hit the ball hard down the right field line for a double and advanced to third on a misplay by the right fielder. Both Sutton and Kolley scored on the play.
Three singles loaded the bases for Kolley to draw a game-winning walk to end the game 14-4 in seven innings.
Rothermich had three hits in the game and two RBIs, two of his hits being doubles. Kolley was a perfect four-for-four driving in three runs.
The Friday split puts Lindenwood at 7-11 on the year with a 7-7 conference record. Both teams will play Saturday to decide the series at 1 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
