Big Inning Drives Lindenwood Baseball to Victory Over Fort Hays

Box Score The Lions baseball team takes the third game against Fort Hays to win the series with a 20-4 win on Saturday in St. Charles, Mo. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.

Lindenwood started the bottom of the first with three straight doubles by Wade Rothermich, Zach Kurzejeski, and Mike Failoni.  The Lions had three runs on four hits in the inning to take the early lead.

After the Tigers scored three in the top of the third, the Lions came back with one run in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-4 lead.

The Lions had a fourth inning to remember.  Nick Kolley doubled and Rothermich flied out to center.  In an attempt to squeeze, Kurzejeski got the RBI and advanced to second on the play then Failoni singled to bring in Kurzejeski.

Mike Wilson was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second.  Nathan Prindle reached on an error to load the bases still with just one out.

Colton Moore singled to move all runners up one base including Failoni in to score.  Ryan Light broke the game open with a two-RBI double.  Kyle Leslie followed with two more RBIs on a single.

Rothermich came to the plate for his second time in the inning and singled to bring in Leslie and advance Kolley to third.  Kurzejeski hit a single that brought in Kolley and Failoni was walked to load the bases.

Wilson hit a two-RBI single scoring Kurzejeski and Rothermich.  Prindle singled to bring in Failoni and it would be the last run of the inning.

The Lions scored all 12 runs in the fourth with one out.  Each player had at least one hit and scored at least one time in the inning.  Lindenwood had nine hits and were up 17-4 after the big inning.

Kurzejeski added an a run in the fifth with an RBI single and two more runs came in the sixth off an RBI single by Moore and one by Leslie.

Zac Pearman earned his third victory on the year going six innings and striking out four.  Steffen Simmons pitched the last inning to give the Lions a 20-4 win.

Four Lindenwood hitters had three hits in the game and Leslie had four.  The Lions compiled 23 hits including at least two hits by the starting nine.  Six hitters had a double in the game.

The Lions improve to 8-11 on the season and 8-7 in the MIAA.  Lindenwood will visit Kirksville, Mo. on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Truman State starting at 1 p.m.
