Lindenwood baseball wins both games on Friday against Nebraska-Kearney by a 5-4 walk-off win and 8-7 victory in game two.
Game one was a great one between the Lions and the visiting Lopers. The Lions were down one run heading into the third inning.
Ryan Light started the inning with a walk and was followed by
Kyle Leslie who was able to reach base on a fielding error. With two outs
Ben Coudret drew a walk to load the bases.
Mike Failoni continues to swing the stick well by driving in two runs on a single to give Lindenwood the 2-1 lead.
Nebraska-Kearney responded with three runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead 4-2.
Lindenwood did not quit in this game as they were able to get into position to win the ball game in the sixth inning.
Failoni lead off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a
Mike Wilson single. Wilson stole second which forced a low throw by the catcher and Failoni scored on the throw.
Wilson advanced to third and then came into score off a
Colton Moore double. Lindenwood tied the game 4-4 heading into the last inning.
Austin Klein threw a solid game going 6 2/3 innings giving up just six hits and struck out four.
Matt Meier came in to finish off the seventh inning giving the Lions a chance to win it in the bottom of the inning.
With one out
Wade Rothermich singled. Coudret was hit by a pitch putting runners on first and second. Lindenwood couldn't ask for a better time for Failoni to be at the plate. Failoni hit the ball hard through the right side of the infield to bring Rothermich around to score the game winning run.
Failoni went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and the walk-off single in game one. Meier earns his first victory of the year.
Game two was another close game that stayed exciting till the end.
Lindenwood started off hot getting three runs in the second inning. With two outs Light doubled and was driven in off a Leslie single.
Nick Kolley was hit by a pitch to push Leslie to second.
Rothermich hit an RBI double and moved Kolley to third in the process. Both runners moved up one base off a wild pitch.
Lindenwood scored again in the third when Failoni powered his way to a 19-game hitting streak as he hit his fourth home run of the year.
Nebraska-Kearney and Lindenwood traded runs in the fourth and fifth innings bringing the game to 6-2.
Kolley laid down the squeeze to bring in Light in the fourth inning.
Zach Kurzejeski scored on a
Nathan Prindle sacrifice fly out in the fifth.
The Lopers showed signs of a comeback in the seventh scoring three runs to make it 6-5. Kurzejeski hit the ball hard in the gap for a double and was brought in by Moore who singled later in the inning to give Lindenwood a 7-5 lead after seven.
Kurzejeski added another run when he drove in Kolley on his second hard hit double of the game for an 8-5 lead for the Lions.
It took two Lindenwood pitchers to finish the game but they got the job done. Meier earned the save as he struck out the only batter he faced.
Zac Pearman gets his fourth win of the year and his third consecutive. Meier finishes the day with his first win and first save of the year. He faced just one batter in each result.
Failoni finished the day going 6-for-9 with a home run, a double and four RBIs.

Doug Bletcher earned his 200
th victory as a Lindenwood Lion after the game one win.
After the two-win day Lindenwood improves to 12-12 on the year and 11-8 in the MIAA. The Lions look to sweep the Lopers with a 12 p.m. start on Saturday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
