Lindenwood baseball fails to sweep Nebraska-Kearney as they fall 10-9 in 11 innings at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
The Lions had a 9-1 lead after six innings but could not hold on for the win giving up eight runs in the next three innings.
Steffen Simmons got his first start of the year throwing five strong innings for the Lions. Simmons allowed just one run on six hits.
Mike Failoni had yet another amazing day going 5-for-6 with three doubles and four RBIs.
Lindenwood had a big fifth inning that was started with a Nick Kolley walk and he advanced to second and third on back-to-back passed balls.
Wade Rothermich double to drive in Kolley. After Zach Kurzejeski was hit by a pitch Failoni hit a double to drive in bother runners.
Colton Moore was able to drive in Failoni with a single. Moore stole second and was driven in by Nathan Prindle with his double to give the Lions a 6-1 lead.
In the sixth Kurzejeski and Failoni hit back-to-back doubles to add another run.
Prindle started off the seventh with a walk and advanced to third on a successful hit-and-run by Mike Wilson. Ryan Light laid down a perfect bunt for a base hit on the right side of the infield allowing Prindle to score.
Kyle Leslie came up later in the inning and brought in Wilson to score as he grounded out to short stop.
Lindenwood could not hold off Nebraska-Kearney as the Lopers score three runs in the eighth and four in the ninth to tie the game at 9-9.
The Lopers scored one run in the top of the eleventh that would be the deciding run in the ball game.
Failoni finished the three game series hitting .733 (11-for-15) with four doubles, one home run, eight RBIs, and a 1.200 slugging percentage.
With the loss Lindenwood falls to 12-13 with a winning record in the MIAA at 11-9. The Lions will be on the road in Jefferson City on Tuesday when they take on Lincoln University for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
