Men's Volleyball Falls To No. 14 Loyola-Chicago

Box Score The Lindenwood men's volleyball team could not pick up its second victory in a row over a ranked team on Saturday evening as the Lions fell to No. 14 Loyola-Chicago by a score of 3-1 in Hyland Arena. The Ramblers won by scores of 25-18, 24-26, 25-16, and 25-19.

Lindenwood started the match hot, jumping out to a quick 7-3 lead that forced a Loyola-Chicago timeout. The Ramblers answered back, going on a 9-2 run that brought the score to 12-9, forcing a Lindenwood timeout. The Lions never recovered in the first set, only coming within three on a couple occasions.

After starting off down 3-0, Lindenwood slowly crawled back into the set and eventually regained the lead behind the serve of Logan Jarus. With a total of 10 ties in the set, the two squads seesawed back-and-forth through the middle of the set. The Lions won the final two points of the set off of a kill by Michael Adams and an attack error by Loyola's Joseph Smalzer.

Out of the break, Loyola came storming back, going up as many as nine in the third set. Lindenwood attempted to answer back with three straight serves by Jarus, but that would not be enough to spark a larger Lindenwood run.

The Lions found themselves in a hole to start off the fourth set and once again could not recover. A kill by Kyle Overby brought Lindenwood within four at 12-8, but Loyola quickly answered back to take control of the set.

Overby led the Lions with 15 kills while Siwicki added eight. The Lions were held to just a .110 hitting percentage while Loyola-Chicago hit .342 on the evening. Adams led the team with a pair of service aces as well as 10 digs.

Lindenwood falls to 17-9 overall and 3-6 in the MIVA. The Lions will hit the road next week to take on Quincy on March 27. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
