Softball Drops a Pair of Games to Fort Hays State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team lost a pair of the games to the No. 17 Fort Hays State Tigers on Saturday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo. Game one saw the Tigers win 11-1 and game two they won 3-2.

The first game of the afternoon started with Fort Hays scoring a run in the first and two more in the second. The Tigers offense continued to score with a big five run fourth and then closed the game out in the sixth with three more runs.

Lindenwood's offense was only able to muster one hit against the conference's best pitcher, Maddie Holub. Kristen Felker started for the Lady Lions and went 3 1/3 innings surrendering seven earned runs on six hits.

Game two was much more competitive. Fort Hays took the early lead with single tallies in the first and second innings. Lindenwood was able to tie up the score in the fifth when it scored two runs on two hits in the inning.

Unfortunately, for the home team the tie game lasted just a half inning because the Tigers scored a run in the sixth to take the lead. Leading by one Fort Hays went back to game one's starter, Holub, to close out the game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Lions put their first two runners on base but never moved off first and second. The one run was all the visitors needed and held on for the win.

Kendall Ryndak started in the circle for Lindenwood and pitched all seven innings giving up three runs while striking out five.

After the two losses the Lady Lions drop to 11-17 overall and 4-8 in MIAA play. Up next for Lindenwood is a road game against Columbia College on Wednesday.
