Baseball Drops Two Games to Nationally-Ranked Missouri Western

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lindenwood baseball fell twice on Saturday to No. 11 Missouri Western losing game one 6-4 and 5-3 in game two.

The Lions played well in game one taking an early lead. Nathan Prindle hit a one-out single in the second and advanced to third on a Mike Wilson single.  With two outs Ryan Light hit a single to center driving in Prindle and put the Lions on the board.

Lindenwood added to their lead in the third inning which was started by a Wade Rothermich single to center.  Zach Kurzejeski moved Rothermich to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Mike Failoni continues to hit well as he drove in Rothermich on a double to left field.  Failoni advanced to third on a groundout.
Prindle drove the ball up the middle for his second hit of the game and Failoni came in to score for a 3-0 lead.

Missouri Western scored five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead 6-3. Lindenwood added one run in the sixth when Light drove in Wilson off a two-out double.  The Lions could not make a comeback and fell 6-4 in game one.

Game two was another tough game for Lindenwood. The Lions again scored the first run of the game starting in the third inning.  Rothermich led off being hit by a pitch. Failoni walked and was followed by a Prindle single which drove in Rothermich.

The lead quickly vanished for the Lions after allowing two runs in the bottom of the third.  Just as quickly as they lost the lead, the Lions grabbed it right back in the top of the fourth.

Light singled and advanced to second on an error by the third baseman to start the inning.  Kolley moved Light to third on a groundout.

Ben Coudret grounded out to second but it allowed Light to score for the RBI.  Rothermich hit a single to center and was moved over to third on a Kurzejeski single. Failoni hit a single to center driving in Rothermich and giving the Lions the lead.

Lindenwood gave up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to fall behind and lose by the score of 5-3.

Dalton Woodard threw 2 1/3 innings in relief striking out one and allowing just one hit. Failoni finished the day with four hits, two doubles, drew three walks, and two RBI.  Light had four hits of his own with two RBI and one double.

After the two-loss day the Lions fall to 16-21 and 14-15 in the conference.  Lindenwood will finish the weekend series in St. Joseph, Mo. with No. 11 Missouri Western on Sunday at 1 p.m.
