Softball Team Splits a Doubleheader With Northwest Missouri

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team travelled to Maryville, Mo. on Saturday afternoon and split a doubleheader with the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats. The Lady Lions fell behind early in game one but came from behind and won 10-6. The second game of the day went to the home team 5-2.

To start off the day, Northwest Missouri jumped out early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lindenwood was able to cut the lead in half in the next half inning but the Bearcats regained the two-run lead back in the bottom of the second.

Trailing 3-1 in the fifth inning the Lady Lions offense exploded. Lindenwood banged out six runs on three hits and also had help from a Bearcat error. The big blow of the innings was a Kendall Ryndak three-run home run.

The Lady Lions entered the inning trailing by two and left the inning leading by four. Northwest was able to cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs but ended the game losing to the visitors 10-6.

Ryndak was two-for-three with two runs and three RBIs at the plate and also earned the win on the rubber. Ryndak threw five innings giving up six runs and striking out three. Danelle Emerick also hit her first home run of the season and drove in three runs.

The final game of the day started with the home team jumping out to a lead again. The Bearcats scored a pair of runs in the third inning to take the lead. Lindenwood chipped away at the lead with single tallies in the fourth and the fifth.

The game stayed tied until the eighth inning. The top of the inning saw the Lady Lions put a runner on but was wiped away on a double play. It was then Northwest's turn to try and win the game. The inning started with Lindenwood getting the leadoff hitter to ground out but the next two hitters reached on errors.

With the winning run on second the next hitter lined out to second base. The Bearcats were down to their last out and that was all it needed. Kim Cantrell ended the game with a three-run walk-off home run to avoid the sweep.

Courtney Kitson and Ryndak each drove in a run while Alexandra Newcomb and Lindsay Schroeder scored a run. Kristen Felker started in the circle and three six strong innings. Felker surrendered five hits and two runs in the no decision.

The split of the doubleheader moved to the Lady Lions record to 18-20 overall and 9-9 in MIAA play. The will be no rest for the team as it travels to St. Josephs, Mo. on Sunday afternoon to take on Missouri Western.
