Terrell Throws Two-Hit Gem Helping Lions Win Both Games on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lindenwood wins both games against Pittsburg State on Saturday by scores of 4-0 in game one and 7-2 in the second game.

In game one Dylan Terrell threw a two-hit complete game shutout for his fifth victory on the season.

The Lions put together a big third inning that was started by a Nick Kolley walk.  Kolley was moved to second on a SAC bunt by Ben CoudretWade Rothermich hit a single to bring in Kolley for the first run of the game.

With two outs Mike Failoni walked for the second consecutive time.  He was followed by a Nathan Prindle single to score Rothermich.  Prindle and Failoni both advanced one base on the throw home.

Mike Wilson drove in both runners on a single to right field giving the Lions a 4-0 lead after three innings.

Terrell was caught with runners on first and second with no one out in the top of the sixth inning.  The Lions attempted to turn a double play but were not in time to first base.  Terrell had one out with runners at the corners and he struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam.

Terrell finished the game with four strikeouts in seven innings allowing just two hits.

The Lions fell behind 1-0 in game two but responded quickly in the bottom of the second.  Ryan Light and Kolley hit back-to-back singles with one out.  Rothermich followed up with a triple in the gap to drive in Light and Kolley for the 2-1 lead.

In the next inning Failoni led off with a long shot to right field for the solo blast giving the Lions a 3-1 advantage.

With a one run lead the Lions broke apart in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Light led off with a single and was moved to second on a SAC bunt by Kolley.  After a Rothermich walk and a stolen base the Lions had two runners in scoring position with two outs.
Zach Kurzejeski put the ball in play and reached first base on a fielding error by the second baseman allowing Light to score and Rothermich moving to third.

With two outs and runners at first and third Pittsburg State decided to intentionally walk Failoni to load the bases.  Prindle made the Gorillas pay with a two-RBI single driving in Rothermich and Kurzejeski.  Colton Moore followed with a single of his own to bring in Failoni.  The Lions led 7-2 after six innings and held on for the win.

Austin Klein went eight innings allowing two runs on six hits and struck out three batters.  Alex Erb threw the ninth inning and struck out one to help Klein earn his fourth win on the year.

Failoni was four-for-five on the day with one homerun and was walked three times.  Kyle Leslie had two doubles and four other Lions finished with two hits on the day.

The two victories will put the Lions at 18-22 on the year and an even 16-16 in the MIAA.  The Lions will look to sweep Pittsburg State on Sunday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo. for a 1 p.m. start.
