Lions Sweep Pitt State with 2-1 Win on Sunday

Box Score Lindenwood earns its first MIAA sweep of the season by beating Pittsburg State 2-1 on Sunday.  Zac Pearman went the distance for his sixth win of the season.

The Lions got things going in the bottom of the second when Nathan Prindle led off with a single to left field.  He was moved over on a SAC bunt by Mike Wilson.

Prindle made a smart base running play moving to an uncovered third base on a Kyle Leslie foul out to the catcher.  Ryan Light was able to get the ball over the first baseman for the RBI single.

After Pitt State tied the game in the Lions responded in the bottom of the sixth.  Mike Failoni hit a double in the left center gap and was driven in on a Wilson double down the right field line giving the Lions a 2-1 lead.

Light had runners at first and third with one out after a Leslie single.  In a squeeze attempt Light hit into a fielder's choice as Wilson was out at home and the Lions could not manufacture another run.

Pearman threw a complete game for his sixth win of the season allowing just one run on six hits and struck out two batters.

Wilson and Light finished the day with two hits each.  Wilson had two doubles and Failoni added one of his own.

Failoni finished the three-game series with five hits, one home run, one double, and walked four times including two intentional walks.  Light had four hits in the series and five other Lions finished with three hits on the weekend.

With the victory the Lions move to 19-22 on the year with a conference record of 17-16.  Lindenwood will play its final home game of the year against Southwest Baptist for a doubleheader on Tuesday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo. starting at 4 p.m.
