The Lindenwood baseball team extended its winning-streak to seven games on Saturday afternoon with a two-game sweep of Washburn in Topeka, Kan. The Lions won game one 12-3 and game two 7-2.
The first game started with the Lions jumping out to an early lead with 10 runs in the first three innings. Washburn got on the scoreboard in the third inning with a single run. Lindenwood kept the offense going with a run in the fourth and the sixth inning. Washburn scored two runs in the seven inning but fell 12-3.
The Lions outhit the Ichabods 13-7 led by
Wade Rothermich and
Kyle Leslie's three hits apiece. Leslie led the team with three RBIs while Rothermich,
Ryan Light, and
Nick Kolley drove in two each.
Dylan Terrell started for Lindenwood and went all seven innings giving up three earned runs and striking out seven.
The final game of the day saw the Lions jump out to an early lead as well. Lindenwood scored a run in the first, one in the second, and two more in the third. The Lions added to the lead in the seventh with two runs and then closed out the scoring with a run in the ninth.
Mike Failoni continued his dominate hitting as of late with four hits in five at bats and also drove in two runs. Failoni raised his conference leading average to .512.
Colton Moore led the team in RBIs with three.
Austin Klein started on the hill and went 7 2/3 and striking out eight for the win.
After the sweep Lindenwood improved its overall record to 23-22 and MIAA record to 21-16. The Lions will wrap up the series against the Ichabods on Sunday afternoon.
