Softball Team Ends 2013 MIAA Season With a Split Against Emporia State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team ended its 2013 season splitting a pair of games from Emporia State on Sunday afternoon in Emporia, Kan. The Hornets won the first game 8-0 followed by the Lady Lions shutting out Emporia State 2-0.

The first game was all Hornets. Emporia State scored three runs in the second inning to take the early lead. The home team added to the lead in the fourth with four more runs and then closed off the win with a single tally in the sixth.

Emporia State outhit the Lady Lions 6-2 and Lindenwood committed two errors. Courtney Kitson and Courtney Opich were the only two Lady Lions to get a hit.

Game two was a much lower scoring affair. The Lady Lions scored two runs in the top of the first inning which was all the scoring for the rest of the game. Alexandra Newcomb and Hannah Braun each drove in a run in the first inning.

Morgan Colvis started in the circle for Lindenwood and was dominate. She went all seven innings striking out five and surrendering no runs.

The Lady Lions ended their 2013 season with an overall record of 20-30 and a conference mark of 11-17.
