Box Score 2 The Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team travelled to Columbia, Mo. on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Columbia College Cougars. The Lady Lions swept the doubleheader with an 8-4 win in game one and a 3-1 win in the night cap.
The opening game of the day started quickly for Lindenwood with two runs in the top of the first and another in the second to take a 3-0. The Cougars answered quickly though. The home team scored a single run in the second inning then tied up the game with two runs in the third.
The contest stayed tied for just a half inning because the Lady Lions scored three runs in the top of the fourth to take the 6-3 lead. Columbia cut the lead to two with a run in the fifth inning but Lindenwood padded its lead with two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Courtney Opich led the team offensively with two hits and two RBIs. Alexander Newcomb pitched in with a run and two RBIs while
Deidre Merli hit her first home run of the season.
Morgan Colvis started in the circle for the Lady Lions throwing four innings surrendering two hits and one earned run.
Game two was dominated by the Lindenwood starter
Kendall Ryndak. The sophomore threw all seven innings giving up just one run on three hits and struck out seven. Merli led the offense with three hits in four at bats while also scoring two runs.
Hannah Braun drove in two runs while
Courtney Kitson scored a run and was one-for-three.
The two wins on Wednesday improved the Lady Lions record to 13-17 overall. Lindenwood will be right back in action on Friday night in Bolivar, Mo. against Southwest Baptist.
