Lindenwood Volleyball Picks Up Home Victory Over IPFW

Box Score The Lindenwood men's volleyball team picked up its 19th victory on Friday evening as the Lions defeated IPFW, 3-1. The Lions won by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-22.

With a season-high 59 kills in a four-set match, the Lions recorded a hitting percentage of .421 while holding the Mastodons to a .239 clip on the evening. Four Lindenwood players recorded double-digit kills in the victory.

Despite recording more kills and a higher hitting percentage in the first set than IPFW, six service errors by the Lions compared to two by the Mastodons made the difference in the set.

With just one hitting error, Lindenwood capitalized on 16 kills in the second set to give itself the advantage. A key point in the second set was the back-to-back kills by Kyle Overby and Tim Schmidt late in the set to put the Lions up 23-20.

After jumping out to an 8-3 lead in the third set, Lindenwood quickly saw that lead dwindle as the Mastodons produced a 7-2 run to tie the set up at 10 apiece. The two squads battled it out through the middle of the set before Lindenwood took advantage of three IPFW attack errors late. Sophomore Colin Hackworth finished the set off with an ace.

The fourth set of the evening was all Lindenwood as the Lions only relinquished lead was at 3-2 early in the set. The Lions hit .583 as a team with 16 kills and only two errors. Lindenwood produced an 82 percent side-out percentage in the fourth set.

Kyle Overby led the Lindenwood attack with 13 kills while Scott Siwicki and Hackworth each added 12. Siwicki's 12 kills came with zero errors on 18 attempts. Michael Adams contributed 11 kills and led the floor with 10 digs. Tim Schmidt tallied 45 assists in the match.

Lindenwood improves to 19-9 overall and 5-6 in the MIVA. The Lions will host Ball State on Saturday evening for Senior Night. Three seniors will be recognized prior to first serve that is scheduled for 7 p.m.
