Lions Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader With Northeastern State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lions baseball split with Northeastern State on Saturday falling in game one 11-9 and winning the second game 20-8.

The day was full of runs and it started early in Tahlequah, Okla.

Northeastern State jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning but the Lions responded in the top of the second.

Kyle Leslie started off the inning with a single and advanced on a passed ball.  Nick Kolley drove in Leslie on a single to put the Lions on the board.

Wade Rothermich hit a single to move Kolley to third.  Zach Kurzejeski moved Rothermich to second and Kolley in to score on his single to right center.

Mike Failoni doubled driving in Rothermich and advancing Kurzejeski to third.  Colton Moore hit the fifth consecutive hit of the inning that being a double down the right field line bringing in both Failoni and Kurzejeski.

Nathan Prindle and Mike Wilson hit back-to-back singles and Prindle scored on a Leslie double.

After five innings the Lions were down 11-6 but in the top of the sixth Lindenwood showed signs of life.

Prindle drew a one-out walk and was followed by a Wilson walk.  Leslie moved both runners up one base as he grounded out to the pitcher.

Ryan Light walked to bring up Kolley with two outs.  Kolley hit a bases clearing double to right center making it an 11-9 ball game.

Dylan Terrell took the loss going 4 1/3 innings striking out five and giving up eight runs, three of which were earned.
In game two the Lions continued to swing the bats well and it showed on the scoreboard.

Kurzejeski drew a one out walk and advanced to third on a Failoni double.  Moore hit a single to bring in Kurzejeski and moving Failoni to third.  Failoni scored on a throwing error by the catcher and Moore advanced to third.

Prindle hit a sacrifice fly to right bringing in Moore and the Lions too the early 3-0 lead after the first inning.

The Lions added another in the second when Leslie scored on a Rothermich groundout.

The bats stayed hot for Lindenwood as Failoni started off the third inning with a single and advanced to third on a Moore single.  Prindle reached on a fielder's choice as Moore moved to third and Failoni scored.

Moore scored on a sacrifice bunt by Wilson.  Light singled to bring in Prindle for the third run of the inning.

Rothermich led off the fourth inning with a walk and later scored on a Moore double to left.  Prindle followed up with a double of his own to bring in Moore and the Lions led 9-3 after four innings.

The scoring picked up again in the eight as Kolley led the inning off with a single and was moved over on a Rothermich SAC bunt.  Kurzejeski hit an RBI single brining in Kolley.  Failoni hit a single moving Kurzejeski to second and both runners moved up a base on a passed ball.

Moore was intentionally walked to load the bases.  Prindle hit a two-RBI single and advanced to second on the throw.  Wilson grounded out to first and drove in Moore in the process.

After Northeastern State put up five runs in the bottom of the eighth Lindenwood took control and put the game away in the ninth.
Kolley walked and scored from first on a Rothermich double.  Kurzejeski was hit by a pitch then Moore was walked to load the bases.

Prindle drew a walk to bring in a run and was followed by Wilson who also walked to drive in another run.

Leslie hit a two-RBI double to left field for the fifth run of the inning.  Lindenwood scored two more runs in the inning winning by a score of 20-8.

Brendan Kleekamp threw seven innings striking out nine and allowing eight runs on seven hits.  Alex Erb threw two the last two innings not allowing a hit and striking out three.  Kleekamp moves to 2-4 on the year.

Failoni had six hits and two doubles extending his hitting streak to 27 games.  Moore had three doubles, five hits and four RBI.  Kolley, Leslie, and Rothermich had four hits each and combined for nine RBI and four doubles on the day.

With the doubleheader split Lindenwood is now 15-17 on the year and 14-12 in the MIAA.  The Lions finish the series on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start.
