Box Score 2 Lions Baseball splits Tuesday doubleheader with Truman winning game one 8-3 and falling in game two 12-8.
Lindenwood jumped out to an early lead in game one.
Zach Kurzejeski reached on an error by the second baseman and scored on a
Mike Failoni double. Failoni advanced to third on a
Colton Moore groundout.
A wild pitch would allow Failoni to score to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Nathan Prindle drew a walk and advanced to second as
Mike Wilson reached on an error.
Kyle Leslie hit a two-RBI double and was driven in on a
Ryan Light single. The Lions led 5-0 after the first inning.
Wade Rothermich led off the second inning with a single and moved to second on a SAC bunt by Kurzejeski. Failoni was intentionally walked to put runners at first and second.
Moore hit a single to drive in Rothermich and advance Failoni to second. Both Moore and Failoni moved up a base on a wild pitch.
Prindle was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to right field driving in Failoni and the Lions led 7-0 after two innings.
Starting pitcher
Austin Klein threw 6 2/3 innings for the Lions striking out three batters. Klein allowed three runs on eight hits en route to his third win of the year.
The Lions added one more run in the sixth inning. Failoni hit a single to left and advanced to second of a fielding error by the left fielder.
Prindle drove in Failoni later in the inning for an 8-1 lead. Lindenwood surrendered two runs in the top of the seventh but held on for the 8-3 victory.
The Lions fell behind in game two but responded quickly in the bottom of the second inning.
Moore hit a double and scored on a Prindle single. Wilson laid down a perfect bunt between the pitcher and first baseman for the infield single.
Leslie moved both runners up one base on his sacrifice bunt.
With two outs
Nick Kolley hit a two-RBI double to bring in Wilson and Prindle for the 3-1 lead.
The Lions added one more in the fourth when Wilson scored from third on a groundout by Rothermich.
In the top of the fifth Truman put up three runs to tie the game at 4-4.
Failoni led off the bottom of the inning with a single and advanced to third on a passed ball and wild pitch. Prindle hit a sacrifice fly to center allowing Failoni to score and regain the lead.
Truman responded in the sixth with a five-run inning to take a 9-5 lead.
Rothermich led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk. In an attempt to pick off the pitcher threw the ball away and Rothermich advanced all the way to third.
Failoni hit a single to centerfield and drove in Rothermich to cut the deficit to three runs. Moore hit an infield single and was followed up by an RBI double for Prindle.
Wilson laid down a bunt to the right side of the infield allowing Moore to score and the Lions were down just one run after seven innings of play.
Truman scored three more runs in the top of the ninth. The Lions failed to mount a comeback and fell 12-8 in game two while committing eight errors in the game.
Moore and Failoni had a great day each with five hits. Failoni had two doubles and five runs on the day with two RBI. Prindle finished the day with three hits, a double, four RBI, and two stolen bases.
With the split the Lions move to 16-19 on the year and 14-13 in the MIAA. Lindenwood will visit No. 12 Missouri Western in St. Joseph, Mo. for a three-game series starting on Saturday at 1 p.m.
