Box Score 2 The Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team had its six-game win streak snapped on Tuesday afternoon losing two games to Missouri Baptist. The Lady Lions lost game one 7-4 and lost game two in extra innings 3-2.
The first game of the day started with Missouri Baptist jumping on the Lady Lions early. The Spartans scored three runs in the opening frame. The visitors added to the lead in the fourth with four runs to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Lindenwood broke the shut out in the fourth with a single tally. The Lady Lions continued to chip away at the lead with two runs in the sixth. Lindenwood threatened in the last of the seventh but could only bring across one run and fell 7-4.
Hannah Braun led the team at the plate going three-for-four with a RBI.
Courtney Opich chipped in with a pair of hits.
Game two started with the Spartans once again jumping out to a lead. The visitors scored a run in the top of the first to take the 1-0 lead. Lindenwood was able to tie the score in the second after an
Alyssa Esperum sacrifice fly.
Missouri Baptist came right back with a run in the third to regain the one-run lead. Lindenwood threatened in the fifth when it loaded the bases with two outs for
Kendall Ryndak but she flew out to center.
Both pitchers put up zeroes until the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs Alexander Newcomb singled to centerfield then the ball got by the centerfielder and allowed her to get all the way to third. With the tying run at third, Deidri Merli doubled into left center to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
In the top of the tenth the Spartans scored a run to take the lead and threatened for more. With runners at second and third with one out Braun caught a fly ball and threw the runner out at home to end the inning and limit the damage to one.
In the bottom of the eighth the Lady Lions loaded the bases with just one out but a groundout and fly out ended the threat as quickly as it developed.
With the two losses Lindenwood drops its overall record to 17-19. The Lady Lions will be back in action on Wednesday night against Maryville.
