Lindenwood field hockey lost in a closely contested match 3-2 to Ball State Saturday afternoon at Hunter Stadium.

This not only was the home-opener for the Lady Lions but also pitted them against a NCAA Division I opponent in the Cardinals.

Lindenwood fell behind early. The team conceded to first half goals to the Cardinals four minutes into the contest. However, the Lady Lions fought back in this one.

Carly Brengosz got the team back into the game with a goal under 10 minutes into the second half, her second of the season. This was answered by the Cardinals with a goal at the 55 minute mark bringing the score to 3-1. Ashton Lichvar netted a goal a minute later at the 56 minute mark cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Lady Lions found themselves with a golden opportunity late in the match with a penalty stroke for senior Kristi O'Connor, the team's leader in points.

Unfortunately for Lindenwood, O'Connor's attempt was no good and the team lost 3-2.
