The Lindenwood Lady Lions defeated Newberry College 8-2 in a blowout road victory Saturday afternoon.
Lindenwood wasted no time getting the early lead. Sophomore
Alex Chappell opened the scoring for Lindenwood with her first goal of the season. Later in the first half,
Emily Scanlon also scored her first goal of the season to give the Lady Lions the early 2-0 lead.
Senior
Kristi O'Connor continued her excellent play with a hat trick. O'Connor's first goal came on a breakaway. She then was the cause of a beautiful pass and score to
Meredith Openlander giving Lindenwood a 4-0 advantage.
O'Connor netted her second goal 45 seconds after the team's fourth. Her second goal came on her second breakaway in which she faked out the goalie. The goal gave the Lady Lions a 5-0 halftime lead.
The second stanza proved to be much of the same. O'Connor opened the scoring with her third goal off a rebound in the front of the net. The three goals give her eight on the year.
Victoria Buysschaert scored on a quick breakaway with an unassisted goal. This was followed quickly by the team's final goal.
Kelsie Kalmer on a loose ball scramble put home the team's eighth goal on an assist from
Karlie Quinn.
The victory brings the Lady Lions' record to 2-5. Next for Lindenwood is next Sunday Oct. 5 on the road against Seton Hill.
