Box Score Colin Hackworth put the Lindenwood men's volleyball team on his back during the final set as the Lions escaped Quincy with a 3-2 win on Wednesday night. The Lions won their first MIVA match of the season by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 23-25, and 16-14.
After winning the first two sets easily, Lindenwood allowed Quincy back into the match by dropping sets three and four. The Lions trailed early in the fifth set, but took an 8-6 lead with a 3-0 run. The two teams traded sideouts until Lindenwood led 14-13. Quincy extended the game with a kill, but the Lions would score two straight on a service error and a block by Hackworth and
Kyle Overby.
Hackworth took over the match in the fifth set, scoring 10.5 of Lindenwood's 16 points. He had nine kills, a service ace, and a block assist in just that set. He finished with 26 points for the match as he recorded 19 kills, four service aces, and six block assists. He finished with a .357 hitting percentage for the match.
Prior to the fifth set, Lindenwood had a balanced offense with Overby and
Zach Bequette also finishing with double-figure points, and
Tim Huizinga coming just shy of that mark. Overby had 12 kills and 16 points, Bequette finished with nine kills and 11 points, and Huizinga came off the bench to record eight kills and 8.5 points.
Among Lindenwood's specialists,
David Poole had a big night with 16 digs.
Tim Schmidt recorded 52 assists, five kills, and five digs.
Lindenwood improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in MIVA play. The Lions next host the Lindenwood Classic this Friday and Saturday at Hyland Arena.
