Lions Win Second Straight Game With Win Over Emporia State

Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball used a late run in the second half to run away from the Emporia State Hornets 76-63 on snowy, freezing cold Monday night in St. Charles, Mo. The win was the second straight for the Lions and got their record back to the .500 mark.

The first half was divided up into two segments with each team taking control of the game once. Emporia State took control first taking a six-point lead four minutes into the contest and then pushing the lead up to eight with 11 minutes to play.

Then the Lions took their turn and pushed their lead up to eight before the half closed with the home team leading by three. The second half started quickly for the Hornets scoring the first 11-of-14 points to tie the score up at 39. After that point in the game it looked like Lidenwood was going to take control. The Lions pushed its lead up to seven with 8:21 to play.

But the visitors did not go down easily. Emporia State went on a 7-2 run to tie the score up at 58. The only thing the Hornets run did was ignite the Lions offense. Lindenwood answered the run with a 10-0 run of its own to take control of the contest. The Lions closed the game out from the free throw line making six-of-seven from the charity stripe.

Lindenwod held the Hornets to just 35 percent shooting from the field and 21 percent from behind the three-point line. The Lions shot 48 percent from the field and 27 percent from behind the arc. The home team won the rebounding battle 40-33.

Tyler Ressel led the team in scoring with 16 points while Garrett Reeg scored 14. Darris Smith and Logan Jaehnen each scored in double figures with 11 and 10 respectively. Jaehnen and Reeg both led the team in rebounds with seven.

The win was the Lions second in a row and improved the team to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in MIAA play. Lindenwood will venture out on the road for a road contest on Thursday night at Fort Hays State.
