The Lindenwood swimming and diving teams opened up the 2014-15 season on Friday afternoon in Columbia, Mo. at the Show-Me Showdown. Both teams finished fourth behind NCAA Division I Missouri and Missouri State, and NCAA Division II powerhouse Drury. The Lions and Lady Lions defeated NCAA Division I Saint Louis and numerous other programs from around the state.
The top performance on the day came from newcomer Jakub Jonczyk who had a pair of fourth-place finishes in the men's 100 fly and 100 back. Two men's swimmers had bronze showings in
Sylwester Borowicz-Skoneczny in the 500 free and Serghei Golban in the 100 back.
The top relay performance was the men's 400 free relay team. The squad of Jonczyk, Golban,
Gustavo Silva Santa, and Joey Martin was second, just 0.20 seconds behind the top Mizzou team.
On the women's side,
Alecia McGillivray had the best showing. She took second place in the 500 yard free race with a time of 5:04.81.
In the diving events,
David Cochran finished fourth in both the one-meter and three-meter dives.
Shelby Werkema had the top women's finish as she came in fourth in the one-meter dive.
Lindenwood will be home for its next three competitions, starting with a multi-team event on Oct. 18 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.
