Lions Split Day One of MIAA Competition

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team started MIAA play on Friday with a win in game one 5-2 and a 1-0 in the second game at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions jumped out in front to start the game as Jerry Roam reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a Nathan Prindle single. Washburn answered back with two runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Lindenwood could not find any offense until the top of the seventh inning and poured it on the Ichabods.

Prindle started the inning with a walk and moved to second on a Ryan Light walk. Both runners stole their respective bases which forced a throwing error by the catcher allowing Prindle to score. Marshall Vallandingham singled to move Light to third setting the Lions up for a squeeze attempt.

Nick Kolley laid down a bunt to bring in Light as the Lions took a 3-2 lead. Ben Coudret was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Wade Rothermich. The Lion leadoff hitter singled to drive in Kolley and Vallandingham.

Geoff Hartlieb came in to close things out for the Lions as they took game one 5-2. Zac Pearman earned his first victory of the year tossing six innings allowing just two runs on three hits.

Game two was a pitchers dual as Taylor Gentry for Washburn had five consecutive strikeouts to start the game and had seven strikeouts through the first four innings. Dylan Terrell had a strong start as well striking out six through his first four as well.

Washburn broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-out double. Terrell was in trouble with bases loaded but came through with a strikeout to keep the Lions within one. The Lions could not manage to get a run to cross the plate and fell 1-0 in game two.

Terrell finished with nine strikeouts through six innings of work while Vallandingham finished the day with four hits and one double.
The Lions are now 3-4-0 on the year with an even 1-1 MIAA record. Lindenwood will wrap up the four-game series with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
