Box Score The Lindenwood men's volleyball team could not earn a major upset on Friday night at Hyland Arena as it fell to No. 1 Loyola Chicago in straight sets. The Lions fell by scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 25-18.
The Lions showed throughout the match that they had the offense to hang with the number one team in NCAA Division I. Lindenwood struggled defensively though and that, combined with the Ramblers' serving, was the difference in the contest.
Both teams were hitting above .400 until midway through the final set when Lindenwood finally fell below that mark. Loyola Chicago finished with a .485 hitting percentage, compared to .368 for the Lions. The Ramblers also had eight service aces on the night and just eight service errors. Lindenwood had four service aces and 13 service errors.
Colin Hackworth was nearly perfect hitting on the night. He had just 12 hitting attempts but recorded kills on 10 of them for a .833 percentage.
Scott Siwicki hit .700 for the contest with eight kills and one error in 10 attempts.
Tim Schmidt had a team-high 34 assists and
Zach Bequette had a hand in four of Lindenwood's five blocks.
Lindenwood will next face Lewis on Saturday at Hyland Arena. That match will now be played at 5 p.m. instead of the originally scheduled 7 p.m.
