Softball Team Starts 2014 Season With a Win and a Loss

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood Lady Lions softball team kicked off its 2014 season with two games at the Eckerd Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. Lindenwood won its first game 7-6 over Lynn and fell to No. 13 Tampa 1-0 in the second game of the day.

The season started with a great game for the Lady Lions. Lynn got on the scoreboard quickly scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Lindenwood answered back though with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the bottom of the second.

The Lady Lions held the 4-1 lead all the way until the top of the seventh inning. Lindenwood was just three outs away from the team's first win of the season. But Lynn did not know the plan. The team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the score.

Lindenwood put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning but could not bring across the winning run.

The game headed into extra innings. Lynn scored a run in the top of the eighth but the Lady Lions answered in the bottom half of the inning. Once again in the top of the ninth Lynn scored a single tally. Then it was the Lady Lions turn to try and win or tie the score. Lindenwood scored to tie the game and then won the game on a fielder's choice.

Mallory Eitel led the Lady Lions with two hits and Madison Huot drove in a pair of runs. Morgan Colvis started in the circle and pitched all nine innings and recorded her first win of the season.

The second game of the day did not have anywhere near the same amount of offense. Tampa scored a run in the third inning and that was all the offense the game would have.

Lindenwood only mustered two hits in the contest. Kendall Ryndak started on the rubber and gave up just one run while giving up seven hits.

The Lady Lions will be right back in action on Saturday afternoon with games against Eckerd and Barry.
