Box Score

Box Score

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team dropped its home opener Friday afternoon to ECAC opponent Wheeling Jesuit University 11-9.

Matt Schenk was big for the Lions despite the loss scoring four of the teams nine goals. Lindenwood behind Schenk's two first quarter goal jumped out to a quick lead in its quest to upset one of the top teams in the ECAC. The Lions were leading 3-1 heading into the second quarter, but the visiting Cardinals had the answer.

Wheeling Jesuit scored five unanswered goals before Carter McCracken scored for the Lions with the man-up advantage with an assist from Brandon Stuebing to cut the deficit to 6-4 at halftime.

The Cardinals extended the lead to 8-4 before Stuebing answered with his second goal of the season assisted by Brandon Lenz. Wheeling would answer once again with a pair of even-strength goals to push its lead to 10-5.

Lindenwood had one more push scoring three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. Schenk scored his third and fourth goals of the day to go with a David Corazalla goal. Stuebing would score his second goal of the game with just over a minute left, but it was not enough.

The loss brings the Lions' record to 0-3 and 0-1 in ECAC play. The team is back in action Sunday, Mar. 16 at home against the No. 13 ranked Domincan Univeristy of California Penguins.
