Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team split a doubleheader with the Maryville Saints on Wednesday afternoon in St. Louis. The Lady Lions won the opening game of the day 9-7 but fell in the night cap 7-1.
The offenses for both teams put up early runs in game one. The Lady Lions scored one run in the top of the first but the home team answered with three runs to take an early 3-1 lead. Lindenwood tied the score in the top of the third after
Madeline Bohr and Diedre Merli each drove in a run.
The game did not stay tied for long because the Saints scored a run on three hits in the bottom of the third to regain the lead. Maryville added to its lead in the fourth inning with two more runs. Lindenwood would get within one run after scoring two runs in the fifth.
 Lindenwood would get within one run after scoring a pair of runs in the fifth. Once again Maryville answered Lindenwood's runs with a run of its own. With the game heading into the sixth inning and the Lady Lions trailing by two, Lindenwood took control.
The Lady Lions exploded for four runs on four hits.
Hannah Braun and
Courtney Opich both led the way with double and Lindenwood would hold on for the win.
Morgan Colvis started for the Lady Lions and earned the victory. Merli led the team with two hits and three RBIs.
Once again in game two both teams scored early runs. Both teams scored one run in the first but unfortunately for the Lady Lions that was the only run they would get. Maryville's offense did not stop though. The Saints scored three runs in the second the two in the fourth and another run in the sixth. Maryville would stifle the Lindenwood offense and won game two 7-1.
Opich led the Lady Lions with two hits and also drove in a run.
Brooke Miller started for Lindenwood and went six innings while taking the loss.
With the split the Lady Lions run their record to 8-11 overall. Lindenwood will travel to Nebraska-Kearney on March 29
th for a pair of games.Â
