Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team lost game one to Southwest Baptist 9-7 but won game two by a score of 12-4 in Bolivar, Mo.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead by scoring five runs in the second inning, all with two outs. After back-to-back walks,
Wade Rothermich singled to right field to bring in
Nick Kolley and moved
Zach Kurzejeski to third.Â
Jerry Roam followed up with a single of his own allowing Kurzejeski to score and Rothermich made it to third base.Â
Mike Failoni showcased his power by hitting a three-run blast to right center giving the Lions a 5-0 lead.
Southwest Baptist chipped away at the lead scoring one in the third, three in the fourth, and took the lead in the fifth with five runs in the frame. Failoni hit another homerun in the top of the fourth, but the Lions could not hold the Bearcat offense and lost game one 9-7.
Lindenwood started game two in similar fashion by putting up two runs in the second inning this time off the bat of
Nathan Prindle who hit a two-run shot for the early lead. An almost mirror image of Failoni's game one, Prindle hit another two-run dinger to give the Lions a 4-1 lead.  Southwest Baptist scored two runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth to pull within one.
The Lions added one in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead. Lindenwood pulled away with a big eighth inning. Failoni hit his third homerun of the day with a two-run long ball for a 9-4 lead.Â
Marshall Vallandingham hit a double to score
Ryan Light and later scored on a fielding error.Â
Mike Wilson hit his second double of the game to bring in
Nick Kolley and the Lions led 12-4 and held on for the victory.
Failoni finished the day with six RBI and Vallandingham crossed the plate five times.Â
Brendan Kleekamp threw seven innings en route to his second victory of the year.
Lindenwood moves to 10-13 on the year with a 7-7 MIAA record. Â The Lions will finish the four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday against Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo. with at 1 p.m. start time.
