Lindenwood Baseball Drops Two Games to Southwest Baptist

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team lost both games on Saturday to Southwest Baptist by scores of 11-5 in game one and 4-2 in the second game.

The Lions fell behind early allowing three runs in the first and four runs in the second.  Mike Failoni got the Lions on the board in the third inning with an RBI single to right field.  Marshall Vallandingham added another run with his solo blast to start the fourth inning, but the Lions were still behind 9-2.

Eddie Sutton got things going in the top of the sixth with an RBI single.  Leslie followed up with an RBI single of his own and the Lions added another run on a fielder's choice to pull within four runs.  Southwest Baptist pulled away with two runs in the bottom of the inning and won the first game 11-5.

In game two the Lions surrendered four runs in the bottom of the third to fall behind 4-0.  In the top of the fourth Vallandingham hit an RBI single and Nathan Prindle laid down a sacrifice bunt to make it a 4-2 game.  Neither team could put runs on the board for the rest of the game as the Bearcats won by a 4-2 margin.

Failoni ended the four-game series going 9-for-15 with three homeruns, one triple, seven RBI, and six runs scored.  Vallandingham had eight hits with two doubles, one triple, and a home run.

The Lions fall to 10-15 on the year and 7-9 in conference play.  Lindenwood will travel to Quincy, Ill. on Tuesday to take on Quincy for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
