Box Score The Lindenwood baseball team beat Pittsburg State on Friday by a score of 7-6 due to a walk-off single by
Ryan Light.
Both defenses flashed the leather early in the game before things got interesting in the bottom of the third inning.
Mike Wilson led off with a fly ball to deep left field that was dropped and the senior moved to second.
Zac Perkins hit a single to push Wilson to third with no outs.
Wade Rothermich laid down a bunt right back to the pitcher resulting in Wilson being thrown out at the plate.
Jerry Roam hit the ball hard to left side with the looks of a double play but the Gorillas made a throwing error allowing Perkins to score and Rothermich moved to third with one out.
Mike Failoni walked to load the bases and
Nathan Prindle followed up with a two-RBI single up the middle to score Rothermich and Roam to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
Lindenwood looked to be out of the fourth inning but a reversed call brought the Lions back on the field with two outs and a runner on first base. Pitt State took advantage by scoring three runs on three hits to tie the game at 3-3. The Gorillas took the lead with a run in the top of the fifth and added another in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead over Lindenwood.
The Lions surrendered another run in the eighth inning and had to fight back from a 6-3 deficit heading into the ninth inning. The first pitch of the inning hit Wilson and Perkins followed with a walk to put runners at first and second. After a strikeout Roam hit a laser beam to left center for a two-RBI double brining the Lions within one run. Failoni was intentionally walked and Prindle flied out to left field to put
Marshall Vallandingham in the box with runners on first and second with two outs.
Vallandingham pulled the ball to the right side over the second baseman for a single to drive in Roam from second to tie the game at 6-6. Light came to the plate and pelted a single to score
Kyle Kruger for the Lions 7-6 comeback victory.
Lindenwood improves to 11-17 on the year with an 8-9 MIAA record. The Lions will continue the series with Pittsburg State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
