Lions and Lopers Each Win a Game

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team travelled to Kearney, Neb. on Saturday afternoon to take on the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney. The Lady Lions won the first game of the day 11-3 but was shut out in the second game 5-0.

Nebraska-Kearney took the early in game one. The Lopers scored three runs on three hits to take the lead 3-0. The lead did not last long as the Lindenwood offense exploded for six runs in the next half inning. The Lady Lions scored six runs on six hits and was helped out by two Lopers errors.

The next time Lindenwood came to the plate Deidre Merli added a run to the Lady Lions lead with a solo homerun.  Already leading by four the visitors added to their lead with a four run sixth capped off by a Courtney Opich home run.

After giving up three runs in the second inning Kendall Ryndak shut down the Lopers the rest of the way. The junior earned her second straight win after throwing a complete game and giving up three runs on five hits.

Opich led the way offensively with two hits and driving in three runs. Courtney Kitson chipped in with three hits as well.

The second game was not as explosive as in the first game. Lindenwood was only able to muster two hits and was shutout. The Lopers scored five runs on nine hits to cruise to the victory.

With the split the Lady Lions run their record to 9-12 overall and 4-4 in MIAA play.
