Lady Lions Softball Splits With the Tigers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team split a doubleheader against the Fort Hays State Tigers on Sunday afternoon in Hays, Kan. The Tigers won the first game of the day 5-2 but the Lady Lions came back in the second game and won 10-3.

Game one saw Lindenwood jump out to the early lead with a run in the top of the first. After holding Fort Hays to zero run in the first, the home team took the lead in the second inning with two runs. The Lady Lions tied the score in the third inning but right back came the home team scoring its third run to take the lead. Fort Hays would add an insurance run in the fifth and the six to hold on for the win in game one.

Lindenwood compiled seven hits but committed three errors on defense. Kendall Ryndak started for the Lady Lions and gave up just two earned runs. Courtney Opich led the offense with a hit, a run, and a RBI.  

Just like the first game of the day the Lady Lions took the early lead. Lindenwood scored three runs on five hits in the top of the first. The Tigers also scored in the first but just once and trailed 3-1. The Lady Lions continued to score with single tallies in the second and the third innings.

With the game heading into the seventh inning Lindenwood held a 6-3 lead and tacked on four more runs. The Lady Lions earned the split against one of the better teams in the MIAA.   

Opich once again led the way at the plate. She had three hits including two doubles, and drive in two runs. Brittany Rozier and Hannah Braun each drove in a pair of runs as well.

After the split the Lady Lions record runs to 11-14 overall and 5-5 in the MIAA. Lindenwood will stay on the road and take on the Pittsburg State Gorillas on Tuesday night.
