Box Score 2 The Lindenwood baseball team lost to Northeastern State in game one by a score of 7-4 and won the second game 21-2 in Tahlequah, Okla.
Game one started off slow as no runs were scored in the first three innings. Northeastern State scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a lead. The Lions responded with three runs of their own in the top of the sixth inning.
Mike Failoni started the inning with a single followed by a
Ryan Light walk and a
Kyle Leslie single to load the bases.
Nick Kolley drove in Failoni on a single to cut the deficit to two runs.
Andrew Kendrick hit into a double play but Light was able to cross the plate. Leslie scored on a
Marshall Vallandingham single and the Lions tied the game at 3-3.
Lindenwood could not keep the game tied for long as Northeastern State scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 7-3. Failoni hit another single the top of the seventh to bring in
Jerry Roam but the Lions could not mount a comeback and fell 7-4 in game one.
The Lions were warmed up for game two as they put 21 runs on the board including a 15-run inning. Roam had a perfect game at the plate going 5-for-5 with two RBI, one double, and three runs scored. Failoni had a triple as one of his three hits and Leslie hit a grand slam that was part of the big seventh inning for the Lions.
The bats were alive in game two but the arms were on point as well.
Austin Klein tossed six innings allowing just one run on six hits and struck out eight batters.
After the split the Lions move to 4-10 on the year with a 2-4 MIAA record. Lindenwood will finish the four-game series on Monday starting at 12 p.m.
