Softball Rallies To End Missouri Western's Winning Streak

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood softball team knocked off one of the hottest teams in the MIAA in game two of a doubleheader today against Missouri Western at the Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lady Lions bounced back from a game one loss to defeat the Griffons 11-10 in a wild second game.
 
The Lady Lions trailed three times in game two but finally won the game in the tenth inning when Kendrall Ryndak drove in Diedre Merli for the game-winning run. That run also gave Ryndak the win on the mound after she pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief.
 
Lindenwood trailed 6-1 early but bounced back with four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. The Lady Lions led 8-6 heading into the final inning of regulation before Missouri Western scored three times to retake the lead. Courtney Opich tied the game with a RBI single and the two teams played extra inning. The Griffons went ahead one more time in the top of the inning, before Lindenwood won with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
 
Opich reached base five times in the second game with three hits and two walks. She also drove in a pair and scored once. Courtney Kitson had four hits and three runs. Ryndak, Brittany Rozier, and Bailey Marshall all drove in a pair.
 
Missouri Western won the first game by a 4-3 margin. All of Missouri Western's runs came off of two two-run homers by Sydney Washington. The second one gave the Griffons a 4-2 lead after five innings. The Lady Lions got one run back in the sixth and had the tying run at third, but couldn't push it across.
 
Opich hit a two-run homer and reached base three more times in that game. Merli and Marshall each scored and Brooke Tiehas had the other RBI.
 
Lindenwood is back in action on Saturday afternoon against Northwest Missouri.
